Ranfurly Village in Mt Albert, Auckland, is a retirement village with a unique history. The original Ranfurly House was built by Lord Ranfurly as a home for veterans of the Boer War, and continued to house veterans of later wars. However by the early 2000’s the buildings were in need of extensive maintenance and refurbishment, and to accomplish this the Ranfurly Trust partnered with Generus Living Group to completely redevelop the site as a modern, high quality village.

RCC were engaged as main contractor for Retirement Village Hospital Building and Apartment Building. This was to include the redevelopment of the historic Ranfurly House as the village hub, a new 60 bed hospital, and six new apartment buildings containing 193 apartments plus basement parking. These are surrounded by outdoor areas with extensive landscaping for the resident’s use. The site is large, but due to its steep contour, care was taken to provide easy and protected access for the elderly residents between all buildings and floor levels.

The first project, completed in 2013, was the $8.5m hospital building. The 3-level building consists of two upper floors of accommodation, providing 15 bedrooms & ensuites in four wings, with central support spaces including lounges, dining, nurse stations, etc, on both levels. The lower level contains a commercial kitchen, laundry, staff room, and storage spaces.
