Construction of an extension to an existing Rest Home adding an additional 40 bedrooms to the complex together with additional lounges and staff facilities. In addition to having to work within a very tight programme, Robert Cunningham Construction had a large bulk cut to carry out prior to the main construction getting underway, and also had to carry out work along side an operating rest home, dementia wing, and laundry facility. The success of the project was through planning, co-operation and communication with the management of the facility. The project was completed on time, on budget and to a very high standard.
The Hillcrest Hospital project comprised three separate phases; a new 20 bed residential wing, refurbishment of the existing facility into a dementia wing and a new 40 bed residential wing. The facility was kept fully operational throughout all operations the challenges were to keep all services operational at all times whilst connections and reconnections were carried out. RCC Healthcare was able to ensure the safety of all residents, staff and the public arriving and departing adjacent the various construction zones.
Careful planning was essential – detailed Task Analysis and Planning was carried out for each of the key services connections and disconnections. Potential disruption notices were provided to the client at these times as an emergency plan was needed to be in place.
A detailed Site Specific Health and Safety Plan was used to control all hazards, the client and the project team were kept constantly up to date with the construction activities to ensure they were aware of all the potential hazards on the wider site e.g. traffic flows, craneage activities, etc.
“CHT has had an excellent working relationship with RCC and our repeated engagement of them is a reflection of their competitive pricing, quality of work and management of the construction project around our operational requirements.”
